Nick is a native of Ithaca, New York. He studied sociology and anthropology at Swarthmore College, and pursued graduate study in sociology at the University of Chicago. He received a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Binghamton University. He has worked as a high school history teacher at the Lehman Alternative Community School.
He received his training as a yoga teacher in 2002 from the Integral Yoga Academy at Satchidananda Ashram, Yogaville in Virginia, and completed subsequent trainings and certifications to teach meditation, yoga philosophy, and yoga for people with cancer. He returns to the ashram every summer to serve as a teacher trainer and director of the teaching staff for the Raja Yoga and Meditation Teacher Training programs. He has taught yoga classes at Island Health & Fitness since its opening in 2006, and also works with private clients.
Nick is a qualified teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and received his training from the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He has taught the MBSR program at schools, universities, hospitals, and health centers since 2007, and currently teaches the Mindful Stress Reduction program at Island. Since 2007, he has also taught stress reduction and gentle yoga to people with cancer, sponsored by the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes. He is a certified Integral Coach, offering life coaching to private clients seeking personal growth and transformation. He received his certification from Integral Coaching Canada in 2011.
